About Angie

Angela Vassallo is a Sicilian American who was born in Austin, Texas. She came of age in Washington, DC and NYC in the 1990s.After inspirational stints in Madagascar, Senegal, and Italy, she decided to study public health.

Fast forward to 2021. She now lives in Los Angeles and is a nationally recognized expert in Infection Prevention and Epidemiology. Currently, she is a contract Epidemiologist for cornerstones of the new media including BuzzFeed, Netflix, and theoldschool production company. In her work with these companies, her roles vary from leading global COVID-19 compliance programs to overseeing contact tracing and testing.

Angela is certified in Infection Prevention and Control (CIC) and is a Fellow of the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (FAPIC). She has a Master of Public Health(MPH) from the University of Texas School of Public Health in Houston, a Master of Science (MS) in Healthcare Management from West Coast University in Los Angeles, and a Bachelor of Arts in International Service from the American University in Washington, DC.

She is Associate Faculty in Epidemiology at West Coast University and the Infection Prevention Advisor for Beckton Dickson, Inc (BD). She is on the national Board of Directors of the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC). Her previous national leadership roles include being Past-Chair of the APIC Communications Committee. In this role, APIC increased their use of social media, created and launched a podcast, and produced numerous infographics. She was the first US Infection Preventionist to use social media to share Infection Prevention messaging and best practice guidance. She is also Past-President of California APIC and Greater Los Angeles APIC.

Angela has worked just about everywhere. Acute Care Hospitals. Skilled Nursing Facilities. Long-Term Care. Ambulatory Surgery Centers. Public Health. Barneys (RIP). She enjoys mentoring future Infection Prevention leaders and helped design the first Infection Prevention Graduate program for Providence University in 2016. Angela was featured in Beckton Dickson's (BD)global antimicrobial resistance fighter campaign and was nominated Healthcare Manager of the Year by the Los Angeles Business Journal in 2014. She speaks French, Spanish, and Italian.
